Clinical Physiotherapy

The role of Physiotherapy is to remove pain and restore healthy, functional movement.

Positive Movement physiotherapists provide hands-on physiotherapy and treat one patient at a time. This makes for individualised care and attention.

Trained to assess and diagnose musculoskeletal problems, Positive Movement physiotherapists identify any dysfunction in movement, and promote the treatment of associated pain. In the next phase of rehabilitation the specific exercise regime begins. This is designed for patient self-management, as a component of the treatment regime.

During your initial consultation, a detailed history of your condition is taken and areas of concern are determined. After appropriately directed treatment, you are reassessed. Your self-managed program of strategies and exercises is then put in place. This will develop as your own individual rehabilitation program, to facilitate your recovery and help reach the required goals.

The core skills used by physiotherapists include a wide range of drug-free techniques to relieve pain, restore function and movement, and prevent further problems including, for example:

  • Education on your condition.
  • Therapeutic exercise and stretches.
  • Movement re-education including core stability assessment and programs
  • Soft tissue massage.
  • Hands on treatment (Joint mobilisation and manipulation).
  • Dry needling
  • Home exercise prescription.

Other clinical services offered by Positive Movement's physiotherapists include

  • Ergonomic and workstation assessments
  • Pre employment assessments
  • Pre surgery assessment and conditioning

At the completion of the consultation you will have a thorough understanding of your problem and the intervention required to facilitate your recovery.

A doctor’s referral is only required for Workcover, Veteran Affairs, other Third Party insurers and Chronic Disease Management Program patients (formerly Enhanced Primary Care) - prior to the commencement of treatment.

There is an out-of-pocket cost for care under the Chronic Disease Management Program (CDMP).

HICAPS is available for convenient immediate health insurance rebate claims for private fee paying patients and the clinics accept cheques, credit cards (except American Express or Diners) and EFTPOS. Please check with your health fund regarding your rebate entitlement.

The Chronic Disease Management Program

This program (formerly “Enhanced Primary Care”) is a Medicare rebate scheme that allows patients nominated by a general practitioner to receive up to five allied health services in one year.

A patient may be able to access Medicare funding to reduce the cost of physiotherapy in treating chronic disease. This could cover a significant portion of the cost of your physiotherapy consultation; there remains an out-of-pocket payment to finalise the consultation charge.

Your referral is valid for one year from the referral date. The referral will outline the services required in the form of a GP management plan/ team care arrangement plan.

Full payment is required at the time of treatment. The Medicare rebate can be claimed at the time using the HICAPS machine. The Medicare card and your debit (not credit) card are required at the time to enable this.
